Mixtures

Miscibility in water
1)
Miscible liquids and immiscible liquids
Two liquids
are miscible if they form a homogeneous mixture.
Example: The water and alcohol, water and mint syrup.
Two liquids are immiscible they form a heterogeneous mixture.
Example: The water and oil
2)
Separation of immiscible liquids
Example:
separation of water and oil.
To separate immiscible liquids we can use a separating funnel.
The mixture has to be poured into the funnel until a complete
decantation:
A container
placed below the tap allows to collect the water that flows in first.
The oil that remains in the separating funnel can then be collected in
a second container.
