Atoms
and chemical reactions
Law of conservation of mass
During a chemical transformation atoms in reactants combine to each
other in a different way to form some products but any atom appears or
disappears therefore the total mass is the same.
Law of
conservation of mass:
For a
chemical transformation, total mass of reactants consumed is the same
as total mass of products formed.
Example:
Combustion
of carbon
Carbone+ dioxygen → carbone
dioxide
If 12 g of carbon
reacts with 26 g of
oxygen then it is formed:
12 + 26 = 28
g carbon dioxide
