Chemical synthesis
1)
What is a chemical synthesis ?
A chemical synthesis is the production of a chemical compounds
involving at least one chemical transformation.
Chemical
synthesis are frequently used on an industrial scale to produce
substances that are found in medicines, food, textiles, hygiene
products, in cosmetics etc.
To achieve a
synthesis a protocol must be followed.
It indicates:
- Instructions to follow
- Operations to be performed
- Material to be used
- Chemical compounds used and their quantities.
All
operations described in a protocol must be followed respecting the
usual safety rules for chemicals compounds.
2)
Advantages of chemical synthesis
Chemistry can reproduce, through synthesis, substances found in nature such as flavorings or colorings.
A synthetic substance is
identical to that found
in nature and has
exactly the same properties.
The Advantage of synthetic
substances is to be produce at a cost much lower than the substances
extracted from nature.
Natural substances are extracted from plants: we must cultivate them,
wait for their maturity, their flowering, or their fruits, and then
harvest them, transport them to an extraction plant.
Synthetic substances are also produced faster and in greater quantities.
